A moment in 2014

This is another piece from 2014, I am including this (bad punctuation, grammar and all) because of some of the pieces that it holds. Reading through these thoughts from my past, from my "Other Emily" as I call her, it's interesting how some of my thoughts have drastically changed, yet some have stayed pretty consistent.

“It seems like you’ve got your head on straight”  is something I have heard several times throughout my life.  Whether it was in a film or overheard somewhere or said to my face, I know that it’s a very familiar saying.  But what does it mean?  I’ve been thinking about it lately and it’s really got me wondering.  I mean I know what it means, it’s a statement of the fact that your life is perceived to be going a certain way and there is a conscious choice behind how it is going?  Or maybe it’s that you know “what you want to do with your life” and what steps you need to take to get yourself there.  What if that’s not the case, what if I have no idea what I want to do with my life I just know the kind of things that I like to have in my life, the way that I like to treat other people, the way that I like to treat my community and they way that I believe people can treat themselves and the people around them.
I was in a counselling session and she asked me what my strengths are and what I’m good at.  I couldn’t really come up with anything conclusive, or at least it felt that I wasn’t answering her the way she had expected.  I said things like; “I enjoy making people happy and being there for them when they need it…..there were more but I can’t remember what they are right now. She then asked me what my religious beliefs were, and that was a very tough question for me to get a straight answer for.  I believe that everyone has the right to worship (or not worship), pray (or not pray), however works for them in their life and how they want to use that to make themselves a better person (or not).  I believe that there is a higher consciousness out there that you could call the source energy (thanks Abraham) but part of my belief lies in that I think it is all one and the same, I think that the Christian God and Buddha and Krishna and all the different deities out there are all one and the same it is just how the people choose to worship and believe that changes it.  There is no right religion or faith and there is no wrong religion or faith, there is just everyone believing in what they need to be able to live in this life.
